BBB Warns Against Buying, Selling Gift Cards Following Christmas Holiday – NBC Chicago

I think this is a little too blanketed of a statement.  While there are scams and bad sites out there I feel pretty comfortable buying from a site like Raise, with their 12 month guarantee.  I guess there is always a chance they go out of business, like some others have, but that is why I don’t buy pre-owned 3rd party gift cards unless I have an immediate use.

  1. Even with raise, the savings have to be at least 10% for me to take the risk/bother of buying a 3rd party gift card. In 2019, staples gift cards at raise were always at 7% and with the numerous promotions raise ran, I regularly got them for 12 – 15% off. But in the last year, staples gift cards are at less than 1% off. Even with a 5% promotion, that is not worth it for me. It seems like raise discounts are much lower in the last year.

    • It does seem like there have been almost no sales on Raise this year. I wonder if they are getting enough business from people trying to save money that they don’t need to push it?
