Office Depot Visa Gift Card Deal

Office Depot Visa Gift Card Deal

Earlier today I reported that Office Depot & Officemax ended their very lucrative Mastercard gift card promotion quite a bit earlier than originally published. It was a fantastic deal. RIP.

Anyway, according to Frequent Miler, a reader has been tipped off that the company will be running a Visa gift card promotion beginning on Sunday. Apparently this reader saw a copy of the upcoming weekly ad which is not yet available online. If this is true, the deal will be advertised, unlike this week’s deal which wasn’t in the ad.

The Rumored Offer

The deal if it surfaces will be:

  • Get a $15 instant rebate on the purchase of $300 or more in Visa gift cards.

This is more in line with past promotions that they have run. Expect there to be a limit of 1 or 2 per household/business, although you can sometimes get more in separate transactions if allowed by the store.

How to Maximize & More

I’ll post with the full details as soon as they are known, but generally it is best to pay with a card that earns 5X at office supply stores and to purchase 2 X $200 cards. Each card has a $6.95 fee so you will earn $1.10 profit plus your credit card rewards.

Visa gift cards sold by Office Depot are issued by Metabank or Sunrise Bank and are PIN-enabled. They tend to work better at Walmart than the Mastercard gift cards which is good news for some.

Conclusion

As soon as we get a look at the weekly ad I’ll follow up to let everyone know the full details. For now this is perhaps a small nugget of positive news after the death of one of the better deals we have seen this year. Happy 5Xing!

So, we are looking at the Weekly Ad; not another in-store sign.

If it is another in-store sign then that contradicts what “the reader” purported seeing

  2. Shawn – just a side note: picture used for the cards is from Staples racks. OfficeMax/depot never sold those particular design cards as they are from a different supplier.

    • You are right that the pic is from a Staples! With that said, Officemax did carry these cards actually while Office Depot carried Vanilla cards. It was only a little over a year ago that they both came together with the same cards. Good catch though!

  3. The online ad is up, but I don’t see anything about a visa gift card discount (unless I missed it in the ad).

    • I also looked at the ad and couldn’t find any mention of the Visa gift card discount. I have a feeling that we were given bad information this time.

  4. Was able to get $1200 in MC gift cards earlier in the week before the offer was pulled. I always ask the cashier to check for the promotion before paying. It usually appears on the register screen. Each $200 gift card was discounted to $180 plus the $6.95 fee. Was shocked by the deal!! A profit of $13 on each card for a total profit of $78 plus nearly 5500 Ultimate Rewards points on Ink!! Must have been a mistake on the part of Office Depot/Max. The sign was still up today re the promo, but when the store rang up the card, the deal was not there. So they gave me $20 in cash to cover the two $200 cards I purchased today. Much less profit, but still 2000 UR points. The manager was perplexed that the deal was still posted in the store, but failed to compute on the register. Past experience tells me that the management and employees are not aware of these promos until I call it to their attention. Appreciate the heads up on Miles to Memories…..

  5. This is good to know. Thank you. I was able to buy 5 of the $100 MC GC on Wednesday. I went to office Max today, to find out that the promotion ended last night. What a bummer!
