Visa Gift Card Instant Rebate

Reminder that this starts tomorrow.  The last time there was a sale like this it was canceled after a few days so make sure you get to it early and often!

Office Depot Visa Gift Card Rebate

Office Depot and Officemax have a new Visa gift card deal starting Sunday, November 19th. This is one of the best deals they offer. Let’s take a look at the details.

The Offer

  • Save $15 instantly when you buy $300 of Visa® gift cards.

Key Terms

  • Limit one (1) offer per customer.
  • Discount applied at register.
  • Offer Valid 11/19/17 to 11/25/17.
  • Offer valid in store on Visa® Gift Cards only.
  •  Visa Gift Card is issued by Metabank.

While the limit of 1 is probably hard-coded into the register, some stores will allow you to do multiple transactions. This varies from store to store and even sometimes from cashier to cashier!

The Math

You can purchase $200 Visa gift cards with a $6.95 fee.

Generally the best option is to purchase 2 of the $200 Visa gift cards. When doing so, the math works out like this:

  • Cost of cards: $413.90
  • Minus instant rebate: -$15
  • Final cost: $398.90
  • Profit: $1.10

It is best to pay with a card that earns 5X at office supply stores such as a Chase Ink Cash/Plus. For example, a Chase Ink card would earn 1,995 Ultimate Rewards points besides the $1.10 profitAlternatively, an Amex SimplyCash Plus which earns 5% cashback at office supply stores would earn you $19.95 cashback, or a $21.05 profit total.

You can get another $4 through their rewards program which gives you 2% back, but it’s capped at $200 per quarter.

Visa gift cards sold by Officemax/Office Depot are issued by Metabank and are pin-enabled. Thankfully they are generally easier to liquidate than Mastercard gift cards. These cards should work fine to load Bluebird/Serve at Walmart and work many other places. For more detailed information on liquidating these cards, see: How To Liquidate Prepaid Visa & Mastercard Gift Cards

This is a great deal to add more Ultimate Rewards points to your balance, especially now that some major online gift card opportunities have dried up. Set e reminder for the 19th. Hopefully you’re able to get the instant discount multiple times at your location.

Happy 5Xing!

  1. I don’t get it, why the headache for $1.10 in profit. Please explain what’s the big deal for someone without a Chase Ink Cash/Plus cards.

Vanilla? I thought that gravy train has long past. Where to deposit these?

    Thank you!

    • They are not Vanillas they are for Metabank’s – not sure why they used a Vanilla picture in the add.

For ink or simply cash you earn 5 UR’s or 5% for this. It is also helpful for min spend on another card. As much free spend as you want at $400 a swipe is a good deal. Even if you used a 2% card you would get $8-9 in profit per order.

  2. I bought all three variants with $4.95 fee ~ Grocery, Dining and Style Everywhere cards. They were all accepted at my WM supercenter, did 4 swipes for every $800 MO with fee paid in cash.

    • Unfortunately, no Walmart in my area or many others won’t work for those. You’ll hear a few saying they found one but only at certain registers and only with certain cashiers. Most of those are considered dead to many ms’rs. I was able after a long wait to get my money back from issuer since I told them I had no place that accepted them. But I had to float that money a while. Wasn’t worth my time. Don’t get stuck.

    • You can use these to buy money orders at the Walmart money center. You could also use them for regular spend. I would only suggest getting them if you have a card that has a office store bonus category.

    • Try a set of two of the everywhere VGCs and bring it to your WM or WM neighborhood market to see if you can turn them to MO. as always, YMMV.

  3. Office rumor that any other variety of vgc that is not at least 6.95 for $200 will not work for this. Bummer for some, but many locations don’t have anything else anyhow since vendor has been phasing out the cheaper ones because people are finding less and less places to use them. Register system updates at places I used to be able to use them no longer work and I’m not talking about usps which we all know is hard coded now to not accept anything including metas. Liquidation will be tougher than ever for vgc so don’t get stuck.

  4. I believe the last time it was cancelled early, it was not printed in their ad, so they had the right to end it early. With it clearly printed in the ad that it is valid 11/19 – 11/25, I don’t see how they could end it early. They could run out of visa cards; that is a different story.

  5. You dont need to bring anything in right?
like an ad or something on your phone?

    Sorry first time doing this.
    have ink though 😀
