Office Depot Visa Gift Card Rebate
Office Depot seems to be bringing the deals often lately and I have word that their popular Visa gift card promotion is back. Let’s take a look.
Update: Deal is back 5/23/21
- Save $15 instantly when you buy $300 or more in Visa Gift Cards.
- Limit one (1) offer per customer.
- Discount applied at register.
- Offer valid 5/23 – 5/29.
- Offer valid in store on Visa Gift Cards only.
While the limit of 1 is probably hard-coded into the register, some stores will allow you to do multiple transactions. This varies from store to store and even sometimes from cashier to cashier!
You can purchase $200 Visa gift cards with a $6.95 fee. Some stores have specialty cards which may work at a lower cost. We’ll base our math on the most expensive cards, but if you are comfortable and know they work for you then go for it.
Generally the best option is to purchase 2 of the $200 Visa gift cards. When doing so, the math works out like this:
- Cost of cards: $413.90
- Minus instant rebate: -$15
- Final cost: $398.90
- Profit: $1.10
It is best to pay with a card that earns 5X at office supply stores such as a Chase Ink Cash. For example, a Chase Ink Cash card would earn 2060 Ultimate Rewards points on the purchase. Deals like these can also be useful if you are working towards minimum spend on new card offers too.
Visa gift cards sold by Office Depot can be liquidated in a variety of ways. Unfortunately these cards have been restricted lately for some uses. You can find out the latest about liquidating these cards at Walmart and other stores here.
This is obviously a great deal if you can earn 5X points and more importantly if you can liquidate these cards. Things have gotten a bit tougher in the liquidation department lately, but I suspect this deal will still be popular for some even if it isn’t quite as exciting as it would have been a few weeks ago.
