OfficeMax Mastercard Gift Card Deal
While this is almost old news at this point, OfficeMax is offering $20 off the purchase of $300 worth of gift cards with a limit of two per customer. The reason I waited to write about this is because I wanted to make sure the deal worked first before posting and I was not near an OfficeMax for the first part of this week.
Here is how the deal works:
Buy Mastercard gift cards in multiples of $300 and receive $20 off. For example if you buy 3 $200 gift cards with a $6.95 fee each, you will receive a total of $40 off.
$206.95+$206.95+$206.95-$40= $580.85
Essentially you are making $19.15 plus earning credit card points. If you have a Chase Ink card, then you will receive 2,904 Ultimate Rewards points as well! A darn good deal if you ask me.
The particular cards that OfficeMax sells are issued by US Bank. To set the pin on them all you have to do is call 1-866-952-5653 and follow the prompts. You can then use them as a debit card or load them on to your Bluebird.
There are two last data points that I would like to add. I have read reports that some OfficeMax locations are allowing customers to purchase more than $600 worth of gift cards at once. The code will automatically take off $20 for as many $300 increments you have. I confirmed yesterday that a $1200 purchase receives $80 off for example.
Also, despite the corporate policy of documenting gift card purchases over $2,000 by asking for personal information, some OfficeMax locations are making people fill out the forms for lesser purchases. Just something to keep in mind.
Thanks to Delta Points for turning me on to this deal.
