Free Points & Profit at Officemax
Officemax is offering a $20 instant rebate on the purchase of $300 or more in Visa or Mastercard gift cards through 11/28. (In-store only.) There is a limit of 2 rebates per customer/business, so purchasing $600 in cards in one transaction should trigger a $40 instant rebate.
After being alerted by a few readers, I was personally able to confirm the deal in my local Officemax store today. The discount is taken off instantly and there is a sign on the gift card rack with all of the terms. Unfortunately it seems that the discount is not available at Office Depot stores.
Update: The registers are taking off more than 2 discounts on higher denominations. For example here is what the receipt for $1,800 in gift cards looks like. The register has taken $120 off instead of only $40.
If you purchase 3 x $200 cards, the total should come out to $580.85. For those people with a Chase Ink, this means a $19.15 profit plus 2,904 Ultimate Rewards points. If there aren’t any $200 cards left, you can purchase 6 x $100 cards for a final profit of $4.30. Not nearly as good a deal, but with Ink it would still generate close to 3,000 points.
Visa gift cards sold by Officemax are issued by Metabank and Mastercards are issued by U.S. Bank. Both are pin-enabled. These cards should work fine to load Bluebird/Serve at Walmart, but the Mastercards do have a quirk if you are loading at a register. See the link below for more details.
Don’t be surprised if your local Officemax is already wiped out of $200 Visa gift cards. These deals are popular and those cards go quick. With that said, if you are able to find some, then this is a no-brainer. Free money and points are hard to turn down, but don’t waste too much time trying to track down cards.
