Free Points & Profit at Officemax
Officemax is offering a $20 instant rebate on the purchase of $300 in Visa gift cards through 12/26. (In-store only. Not at Office Depot.) There is a limit of 2 rebates per customer, so purchasing $600 in cards in one transaction should trigger a $40 instant rebate.
As has been the case with many previous promotions, the discount should be taken off instantly. Generally there is also a sign at the gift card rack advertising the deal if there are any issues. Some stores may let you purchase multiple sets of cards, so it never hurts to ask.
The Math
If you purchase 3 x $200 cards, the total should come out to $580.85. For those people with a Chase Ink, this means a $19.15 profit plus 2,904 Ultimate Rewards points. If there aren’t any $200 cards left, you can purchase 6 x $100 cards for a final profit of $4.30. Not nearly as good a deal, but with Ink it would still generate close to 3,000 points.
Liquidating
Visa gift cards sold by Officemax are issued by Metabank and are pin-enabled. These cards should work fine to load Bluebird/Serve at Walmart. For more detailed information on liquidating these cards, see: How To Liquidate Prepaid Visa & Mastercard Gift Cards
Conclusion
Don’t be surprised if your local Officemax runs out of stock of $200 Visas very soon. These deals are popular and those cards go quick. With that said, if you are able to find some, then this is a no-brainer. Free money and points are hard to turn down, but don’t waste too much time trying to track down cards since it seemingly gets harder and harder every time.

Back in PHX, six more cards again triggered AML info. Ugh! Seems to be hard coded for GC purchases exceeding $1000.
Vacationing in Vegas – still two full racks of $200 VCGs at the OM on Serene, but AML was triggered on a six card purchase. Mgr informed me of a recent email citing policy change for GC purchases over $1000.
Office Depot & Office Max are now Office Depot here. All one physical store, is the offer still good at Office Depot?
They still carry separate gift card types and inventory. This deal is at Officemax only.
Unfortunately the deal seems to only be at Officemax branded stores.
[…] a better one, I will continue to use the Mad Lib construct to announce them. I first learned on Miles to Memories that we have another deal going on this week, through […]
Success at my Office Max. Purchased 3 x $200 Visa gift cards with Ink and the rebate was implemented at point of sale.
So, what are the repercussions of AMLs?
Per local store manager, aml is now triggered at $1000. Used to be $2000.
AML was triggered with $1200 purchase. What gives?!
Tons of $100s vgcs, $200mcs, tons.. And not a single $200 vgc 🙁
My office max is enforcing debit card payments, and they said all stores are told to enforce this…
Do they let you split the purchase into $300 each if you’re buying 3x$200? And does it still ring up for the discount if you do? I would assume you’d have to have a regular transaction to do this. 3x$200 would require one of the cards to be on two separate transactions.
OfficeMax and OfficeDepot are the same store here now. Any thoughts?
