McDonald’s & Staples Amex Offers
Good morning. I sincerely hope you were up late (or early) and were able to score on of the amazingly low airfares to India last night. If not, then there will always be a next time. Don’t worry about it too much, because I do have two other great deals for you.
Amex Offers has a couple of really solid deals that just came out. Since the number of registrations is normally limited, I thought I would let you know as soon as possible. Here they are.
Staples Amex Offer
Update: This offer has reached the maximum number of registrations and is no longer available.
Amex Offers is giving a $20 statement credit for a $100 or more in-store purchase before 11/9/2014. This seems to be a widely targeted offer and was available to load to all of my cards on the American Express website. You can also load it to other American Express cards such as Serve via Twitter.
To load the offer via Twitter, simply click here and link your Twitter account to an Amex card for Amex Offers. Once you have linked your account, tweet out #AmexStaples and the offer should be loaded. Keep in mind this is only valid for in-store purchases.
Staples Amex Offer – Possible Moneymaker
Perhaps the simplest way to maximize this offer is to combine it with the current $20 rebate being offered. Since that offer is 1 per household, it really isn’t scaleable if you have multiple American Express cards. If you purchase $100 gift cards, you will pay a $5.95 fee and make a $14.05 profit. Visa/MC gift cards purchased at Staples should be loadable to Serve/Bluebird.
If you can find them, $200 gift cards only carry a $6.95 fee. Ask the cashier to split the purchase between two Amex cards and you could potentially earn $40 cash back from the purchase of one card. After the fee, you would net a $33.05 profit. That will most likely be my strategy.
Update: While I was sure you could split transactions, apparently it is not possible. I could swear I had done it before, but that must have been at Officemax. You can still buy $100 Visa cards for $105.95 or buy merchant gift cards to get the credit.
Offer Valid 10/15/14 – 11/9/14Valid in-store only. Not valid on online purchases, catalog orders, or B2B sales at StaplesAdvantage.com. Enrollment limited. Valid at any participating location in the US. If you order an item during the offer period but it is not sent to you until after 11/9/14, it may not count towards determining whether your purchase qualifies for the offer.Get a one-time $20 statement credit by using your connected Card to spend a total of $100 or more in-store at Staples by 11/9/14. Tweet using #AmexStaples to add this offer to your connected American Express Card. This offer does not require a coupon at the point of sale – so once you’ve received a confirmation response message from our Twitter handle @AmexOffers that the offer has been added, just shop with your connected Card to redeem!
McDonald’s Amex Offer
There is also a new targeted offer for a $5 statement credit after spending $5 at McDonald’s. Unfortunately this offer isn’t available to be synced via Twitter and none of my American Express accounts were targeted. Many people on Slickdeals are reporting that they are seeing it offered on Blue Cash cards. YMMV.
If you are able to get the offer, you can buy $5 McDonald’s gift cards to use later or sell them for roughly 84% of their value which would net you about $4.20. I suppose they might make good stocking stuffers as well!
I highly suggest syncing the Staples & McDonald’s deals as soon as possible. The last few times there has been a Staples Amex Offer, it has gone very quickly. While I wish the Staples Amex Offer worked for online purchases, I suppose it won’t hurt to mozy on over there to maximize this promotion.
