Easy 5X UR Points With Staples No Fee Mastercard Deal

Staples sells a variety of Visa & Mastercard gift cards. Depending on the value (up to $200) the fee to purchase these can cost as much as $6.95. They do often run rebate promos on these cards, making it an easy way to rack up points. Well, this week they are bringing back an offer that waives the fee completely. Let’s take a look.

Updated with new offer 10/23/2020

The Offer

  • No purchase fee when you buy a $200 Mastercard® Gift Card

Key Terms

  • Valid 10/25/2020–10/31/2020.
  • The Mastercard® Gift Card is issued by Metabank, pursuant to a license from Mastercard International.
  • Limit  5 per customer.

You can find the full terms in the weekly ad.

Maximizing This Deal

Cards like the Chase Ink Plus, Ink Cash and Amex SimplyCash Plus will all earn 5X/5% back on these purchases. I also assume you may be able to visit multiple stores and/or ask to do multiple transactions despite the terms, but that is obviously YMMV. You can also use cards that have the Amex Offer or Chase Offer for Staples purchases.

Spending the Mastercards

These Mastercards are PIN-enabled and should work anywhere Mastercard is accepted. I know people have had issues with these coding as debit cards at Walmart, but they do work at some places and can be run as credit if you are just using them to buy normal products.

October has been the month of gift card deals.  It seems like every other day a new deal starts at Staples or Office Depot.  They are great point earning opportunities for us though!

Based in NYC. Points/miles enthusiast for years and actively writing about it for the last 6+ years at Danny the Deal Guru. I'm always looking out for deals. Making a few bucks is always nice, but the traveling is by far the best part of this business.

  1. I bought 5 today, I was not able to buy a MO with them at Walmart or Publix. its like their registers were hard coded to not let you use them. I went a Kroger after that and they worked fine but when 2 of your liquidation sources dry up its not worth it. My preferred method of liquidating these is by loading to Bluebird or Serve and if I can’t do that, I won’t buy anymore MCs, Visas are fine.

  2. Hi! Can you maximize that by buying online through UR portal. With ink business cash you can score 2x because chase offers 2x on staples purchases and 5x because it’s ink cash??
Example buying a $50 prepaid Mastercard. So 2×50 because it’s through UR portal and 5×50 because it’s ink business cash. Total 350?

    • Giftcard purchases are specifically excluded from earning any cashbacks. Plus you can’t buy these online. The deal is instore only.
