Staples Mastercard Gift Card Deal

Staples Visa Gift Card Deal

Staples sells a variety of Visa & Mastercard gift cards. Depending on the value (up to $200) the fee to purchase these can cost as much as $6.95. Well, this upcoming week they are bringing back their best offer that waives the fee completely. Let’s take a look at the details of this offer.

The Offer

  • No purchase fee when you buy a $200 Visa® Gift Card

Key Terms

  • Valid 8/30/20 – 9/5/2020
  • Limit 5 per customer, per day.

You can find the full terms in the weekly ad.

Maximizing This Deal

There’s is a limit of 5 mentioned in the ad, so you should be able to purchase up to $1,000 in total per store, per day. Cards like the Chase Ink Plus, Ink Cash and Amex SimplyCash Plus will all earn 5X/5% back on these purchases.

I also assume you may be able to visit multiple stores and/or ask to do multiple transactions despite the terms, but that is obviously YMMV. Some stores might even claim lower limits, but you should be able to convince them to let you buy at least 5, just by showing the ad.

Spending the Visa Gift Cards

These Visa gift cards are PIN-enabled and should work anywhere Visa is accepted. You can use them for regular spend or a variety of different ways.

It’s nice to see Staples bring back this offer, as many 5X sources have been drying up lately. This is one of the better deals we have seen with the limit of 5 cards. Just keep in mind that the promotion is not live just yet. It starts on August 30.

  1. Awesome deal!!!………….IF you can find a Staples that doesn’t act like nazis about their VGC’s. Most around me in Dallas don’t re-stock, and if they do, they put out limited quantities at a time to toy with us MS’ers…as if their livelihood depended on not making them readily available for us.

    • Unfortunately yes, in store only. Also watch out for the cards in the packaging that have the back window already opened. You have to check.

  2. Great deal. If I use them to pay bills like utilities, medical, etc., for which I would normally use a 2% cash back card, I make 3% more. So, for each $1,000 purchase, I am making $60. An excellecnt return on investment.

    • Whoops. I made a mistake. My marginal return is 3% of $30 per $1,000 of Visa cards, not $60. Still a very good return on investment.
