Staples has a brand new Visa gift card rebate offer this week. If you buy $300 or more of Visa gift cards in store, Staples will send you a $20 Visa prepaid card via Easy Rebate. The promotion runs from 6/15/14-6/21/14.
Analysis
This is a great offer if you have a credit card that pays 5x at office supply stores like the Chase Ink Bold/Plus cards. Since I am earning 5x and the fee for the $200 gift card is only $6.95, I would recommend purchasing two of the $200 cards.
Let’s take a look at how the math works for someone with a Chase Ink Bold/Plus Visa card.
Total Purchase Price: $413.90 ($206.95 x2)
Total Fees: $13.90
Rebate: $20
Credit From Visa Savings Edge 1%: $4.14
Total Money Earned: $10.24
Total Points Earned: 2070
Conclusion
As you can see, this is a money maker even without a 5x card. Although the best deal is to use a 5x card, any card will make at least a small profit so this could be a good way to meet minimum spending requirements.
This is the type of easy deal that is good for beginners to get their feet wet. You will earn some valuable points and see if you are comfortable with buying and liquidating gift cards. Remember once you purchase the cards, you can liquidate them onto your Bluebird at Walmart or just use them to pay normal bills.
Happy Father’s Day!

How is this a ‘great offer’ ?
You can only get 1 rebate, am I correct?
Yes it is a limit of one. Considering I value UR points at around $.02, this deal is essentially $50 in free money. It isn’t something to drive 50 miles for, but it is a good deal. I laid out the math so everyone can decide for themself if it is worth it.
