Staples Visa Gift Card Rebate Deal

Staples Visa Gift Card Rebate Deal

I really love when Staples has negative cost gift card deals. They aren’t as lucrative as promotions from other chains, but they seem to come with more regularity. The last time we saw a similar deal was about a month ago, so let’s hope this frequency keeps up.

The Deal

  • Receive a $20 prepaid Visa card via Easy Rebate with the purchase of $300 or more in Visa gift cards.

Key Terms

  • Offer valid 1/3/16 – 1/9/16. (See ad on page 8)
  • In store only most likely. (All past deals have been in-store only.)
  • Limit of one rebate per household.

Maximizing the Deal

Staples Visa Gift Card Rebate Deal

This deal is best maximized by using a card that earns 5X at office supply stores like the Chase Ink cards. You can also use an Amex SimplyCash which earns 5% cashback at office supply stores.

Using the Chase Ink, the optimal strategy is to purchase 2 of the $200 cards which cost $206.95 each. Here is the math:

  • Cost: $413.90
  • Minus Rebate: $20
  • Final Cost: -$6.10
  • UR Points Earned: 2,070

Visa gift cards sold by Staples are issued by Metabank and are pin-enabled. For more info, see: How To Liquidate Prepaid Visa & Mastercard Gift Cards

Liquidate the Visa Rebate Card

The rebate will come in the form of a Visa gift card that does not have a pin. These rebate cards cannot be loaded to Bluebird or Serve, so the best way to liquidate them is to spend them. Some people load them to their Amazon account, while I wait for fuel point promotions at my local grocery store and purchase eBay gift cards with them.

Conclusion

These deals are nice if you have a Staples nearby. I have noticed that my local Staples stores are stocking more and more $200 cards lately, which means these deals have seemingly been easier to get. Still, with a limit of 1, the potential profit is limited, but for many this will be a nice way to grab some free points!

  1. Saw on twitter some people did not get rebate forms when they bought VGCs at Staples stores yesterday. Can anyone confirm whether or not you got rebate form? Don’t want to bother going to Staples if I won’t get form.

  2. Could you purchase $600 in gift cards to get two $20 rebate cards, albeit, using two different addresses when filling out the rebate form?

  3. wish the online deal were back with the instant credit. the in-store deal is a hit or miss plus a long wait to receive the rebate!
