Another Staples Gift Card Deal! Make Some Money Today.

Introduction

Staples releases a gift card deal every couple of weeks it seems.  Starting yesterday 4/27 through 5/3, they have a new deal on Mastercard prepaid cards.  If you purchase $300 in Mastercard gift cards, they will send you a $20 Staples gift card via Easy Rebate. Unlike Officemax who makes it easy to buy multiple gift cards over and over, Staples imposes a limit of one rebate per household. Of course it is always fun to get family involved!

How It Works

Unfortunately the highest denomination of Mastercard gift card that Staples sells is $200.  Since the $100 cards almost have the same fee as the $200 cards and since the Chase Ink card earns 5x Ultimate Rewards points at Office Supply stores, I usually buy 2 x $200 cards which each carry a $6.95 fee.

The math works like this.

2 x $206.95 = $413.90

$413.90 – $20 = $393.90

Total profit = $6.10

Total points earned with Chase Ink = 2,070

While the rebate does come in the form of a Staples Gift card, I always have use for Staples credit, so it works out to be pretty close to cash for me.  As for the Mastercard gift cards, it is fairly easy to use them.

You can always use the gift cards for everyday spending, to pay bills and of course there is always the option of loading them onto your Bluebird or Serve card at Walmart.

Conclusion

This is another way to add a few points to your accounts and make a little money in the process.  Even if you don’t have a Chase Ink card, it can be useful to take advantage of deals like these to earn points on other cards and/or meet minimum spend requirements.  Please let me know if you have any questions!
