Office Depot Visa Gift Card Deal
Office Depot/Officemax has a new promotion on Visa gift cards. You can get an instant discount and net plenty of credit card rewards. Let’s take a look at the details.
Update 10/15/22: The deal ends today. The Staples offer has been extended another week though.
The Offer
- Save $15 instantly when you buy $300 or more in Visa Gift Cards.
Key Terms
- Limit one (1) offer per customer.
- Discount applied at register.
- Offer valid 10/9/22 – 10/15/22
- Offer valid in store on Visa Gift Cards only.
While the limit of 1 is probably hard-coded into the register, some stores will allow you to do multiple transactions. This varies from store to store and even sometimes from cashier to cashier!
The Math
You can purchase $200 Visa gift cards with a $6.95 fee. Some stores have specialty cards which may work at a lower cost. We’ll base our math on the most expensive cards, but if you are comfortable and know they work for you then go for it.
Generally the best option is to purchase 2 of the $200 Visa gift cards. When doing so, the math works out like this:
- Cost of cards: $413.90
- Minus instant rebate: -$15
- Final cost: $398.90
- Profit: $1.10
Maximize
It is best to pay with a card that earns 5X at office supply stores such as a Chase Ink Cash/Plus. For example, a Chase Ink card would earn 2,060 Ultimate Rewards points. Alternatively, an American Express SimplyCash Plus which earns 5% cashback at office supply stores would earn you $20.20 cashback. But might be best to steer clear of gift card purchases with Amex cards.
Liquidating
Normal Visa gift cards sold by Officemax/Office Depot are issued by Metabank and are pin-enabled. These cards should work fine to load Serve at Walmart and work many other places. For more detailed information on liquidating these cards, see: How To Liquidate Prepaid Visa & Mastercard Gift Cards
Conclusion
This is one of the best deals out there when it comes to Visa gift cards. While it is not as easily scalable as the Staples fee free deals it does come with a small profit to offset liquidation costs.
Correct, Mastercard GC promotion. Not Visa at least per my experience this week.
Isn’t this one for MasterCard not Visa?
It is a Mastercard prmotion and not Visa.
Updated – thanks
If not on the shelf, ask for Five Back, Grocery Everywhere, or Dining Everywhere if you are going to load to a GoBank card. I found these cards were in a box on a storage shelf. Some OD employees are more helpful than others.
Good tip CJH – never hurts to ask!
Mark,
Re. the ‘one per customer’ rule/restriction, I’m just curious as to what the definition and parameters is for this….is it once per day? How is a visit and transaction calculated? I had one local store where the cashier (presumably a manager of some type) enforce the one transaction rule as he would not let me separate my purchase into 2 different transactions of $400. No big deal…but it got me thinking as to when I could return and rightfully do another one. Later that day? Next calendar day? Appreciate any insights.
Usually they don’t have an issue with one per day. But I have gone back to the same store later when different people were working.
I asked if they had any left and the cashier contacted the manager who personally delivered it to the register. Was approved even though I only purchased gift cards
Just a loyal reader here. Simon Mall GC are being blocked at all Albertsons stores as of yesterday.
One could get a free Google mini assistant if adding it at the end of the transaction.
Worked for mw thi morning in 2 different stores.
Nice I saw that – did you just bring the Google Mini up with you or did they have it at the counter?
