2 New Mediocre Transfer Bonuses Available
This week there are a few new transfer bonuses from Cathay Pacific and Virgin Australia Velocity. You can eanr additional Asia Miles and Velocity points by transferring in points from various hotel and flexible points programs. Let’s take a look.
Cathay Pacific
Right now, you can transfer your hotel points to Cathay Pacific and you will earn a 50% bonus on the normal transfer rate of TERRIBLE. Of course, SPG and Marriott, the only program that could potentially make any sense to transfer miles with the bonus is excluded from the promotion. Here’s the official promo page.
Details
- To be eligible you must not have made a transfer from May 2017 until now.
- Eligible Members who successfully convert their hotel points from the 12 participating hotel loyalty programs into Asia Miles during the above mentioned Promotion Period will be entitled to 50% bonus miles.
- They will not be earned on those earned from hotel stays. Members who convert points from Marriott Rewards or Starwood Preferred Guest
Virgin Australia
Great news! Virgin Australia Velocity is offering a tiered bonus of up to 40% on transfers. All you have to do is transfer in 750,000 points to get the top bonus amount. Can you see me rolling my eyes? Additionally, for those of us based in the US, this bonus is of limited utility since many of the partners are not US programs. Nick at Frequent Miler pointed out that SPG could make sense with their additional 20% bonus, as you could get 30,000 Points for transferring 20k miles with the usual 5k bonus for SPG transfers. I would definitely only do this with a specific redemption in mind.
Conclusion
These transfers don’t make a whole lot of sense unless you’re stuck with some points you’ll never use or you’re looking to top off balances for a specific award ticket.
