Alaska Airlines Announces Upcoming Award Chart Changes
Alaska Airlines has revealed on its website today that it will make changes to it award chart. The airline is giving us advance notice of these changes, but it is not revealing much about what these changes will actually mean for customers.
We do know that changes will go into effect in late December and that booking capabilities will be added for two partners.
Here’s what the full text of the announcement that was posted on the Alaska Airlines website:
Good news for 2022!  Cathay Pacific awards will be available to book on alaskaair.com in October and LATAM awards will be available before the end of 2022.
Starting late December, the way you view award charts online is changing. We’ll have a simplified award chart to show you where award levels start based on which regions you’re traveling from and to. With this change, similar to awards on Alaska, partner award levels may vary depending on multiple factors including route, distance, or demand. You’ll continue to be able to enjoy great value for your miles. As always, the best way to view pricing and availability for the routes you’re interested in flying is to search for your specific travel dates and destinations.
Conclusion
It’s hard to give an opinion on these changes as we don’t really know much for now. But I’m sure most readers don’t get a happy feeling when they read “award chart changes” are coming from an airline. Even if these changes are labeled as good news.
There is some good news indeed, as Cathay Pacific awards will be available to book on Alaska in October and LATAM  will be available before the end of the year. But the award chart changes are normally bad news. We do know that the chart will be simpler, as well as region and distance based.
Let us know what you expect these changes to be!
