Alaska Double Miles Coast2Coast Promo & Details Clarified

Alaska launched an interesting promo a little while back where Alaska flyers can earn double miles on select California to East Coast travel.  This is a very generous offer since Alaska members still earn miles based on distance flown versus the dollar amount of the tickets.  At least there is one left 🙏, right? This promo is an opportunity to reduce the cost of a status/mileage runs for people that need to do them every year. There was a little confusion when the promo first came out on what was actually doubled so PDX Deals Guy reached out to Alaska’s team to get some clarification.

Details of the Offer

Here’s how it works:

  1. Register your Mileage Plan number below before your first qualifying flight.
  2. From April 1 through December 31, 2019, fly nonstop on Alaska Airlines between the cities listed below.
  3. Presto! Double miles are credited to your Mileage Plan account.

Which nonstop flights qualify for this double miles offer?

Clarification Needed

PDX Deals Guy was looking to clarify while miles actually get doubled.  Do people with status get double their status earnings too or just their base earnings?  Some websites had reported that you would earn double miles on the status bonus as well.  Per the FAQ that is not the case:

How are double miles calculated?

Double miles are based solely on the flight miles. Alaska Airlines flights that are less than 500 miles in length will receive double the minimum 500 mile accrual.

You can see the full list of the FAQ here.

Conclusion

This is a very generous offer for people that live on either coast and travel back and forth between the two.  It could also reduce the cost of your mileage/status runs if you are able to find cheap fares between the included airports. Just remember that you should only get double the actual miles flown and not double your status bonus earnings as well.
