American Express to End Hawaiian Transfers
American Express is ending a popular transfer option for its Membership Rewards cardholders. A notice on the transfer page, now says that as of June 30, you won’t be able to convert Membership Rewards points to HawaiianMiles.
This is not unexpected new, as this transfer option was always deemed to be temporary until the Alaska and newly acquired Hawaiian programs merged completely. But it is still bad news for those who value Alaska miles.
Since last September, soon after the acquisition was completed, HawaiianMiles have been transferable to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan. That means that Amex cardholders could also transfer Membership Rewards points to Alaska Airlines, by going through Hawaiian first.
Here’s the notice on the Amex transfer page:
Effective June 30th, 2025, the ability to transfer Membership Rewards® points to Hawaiian Airlines’ HawaiianMiles will no longer be available.
The good news is that you still have about as month and a half to transfer your Amex points to Hawaiian Airlines’ HawaiianMiles and then to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan. I don’t expect Amex to launch a transfer bonus for Hawaiian during this period, so you will have to settle for 1:1 transfers.
Normally it’s not a good idea to transfer points speculatively, but with this option going away for good, it makes sense for Alaska and Oneworld fans to get transfers done before the end of June.
