Amex Platinum Cardholders, Get $200 in Free Spend at Best Buy and Home Depot
Amex Platinum cardholders started the year with a nice surprise. They can get $30 in free spend every month when using PayPal. That’s $180 worth of spending. Now there’s another $200 of free spend through Amex Offers. This comes as two separate offer for online purchases at Home Depot and Best Buy. Let’s take a look at the details.
Update 1/22/21: it looks like the offers have rolled out to some accounts that were not targeted the first time around.

Conclusion
Two great offers that can easily net you $200 in free spend. Most people should be able to find something to buy at Home Depot and Best Buy. This definitely takes a big chunk out of that big $550 annual fee.

Little confused on the HD offer – “ “eligible transaction” means an online purchase made with a “ship to home” or “ship to store” shipping option only. Excludes in-store purchases, purchases made online but picked up curbside or in-store…” I can order “ship to store” but I can’t pickup curbside or in-store? How do I get my item? Will they leave it out back by the dumpster for me?
“Ship to store” is different then “curbside” or “in-store” pickup. you will see that if you try to order from homedepot.com. Ship to store is for items not normally in stock at your local home depot store. For only items sold at and in stock at local store, you get the option to do curbside/in-store pickup. I believe they are processed differently by Home Depot as ship to store is processed by homedepot.com while in store or cubside pickup is charged and processed by your local store. I believe that’s how amex tells the difference.
I just checked my statement.
For “ship to store or home” orders, items is sold by homedepot.com and it will show up as ” HOMEDEPOT.COM 800-430-3376 GA” on your credit card statement. only this will trigger the credit.
for “in store or curbside pickups”, you are buying it from that store, so it will show up as ” THE HOME DEPOT 4713 EVERETT WA” in my example and this will not trigger the credit. and you don’t have to split the purchase $50 x2. my $113 order triggered one time $100 credit.
Thanks, that clears it up.
On top of that $200 there was also another free $50 from home chef food delivery along with a few other great deals $50 back on $250 from instacart, $50 back on $100 from goldbelly, $50 back on $150 from container store etc…
Possible that “Pick up in-store” orders may still trigger the offer?
Amazing start to 2021 for Amex. So I can get $180 through Pay Pal for stuff I buy anyway then $200 off of things from Best Buy and Home Depot (IMHO anyone can find things they would buy anyway from them) then I have the $200 airline credit (which I can use for checked bags for my kids who don’t have status or upgrade certificates), the $200 Uber credit and $100 Saks which is $880! Even if you don’t value them all at 100% still easily covers AF. Then you have the lounges (Centurion lounge at my home airport) and all the other benefits and offers.
I know a lot of people wouldn’t want to pay $550 but I get great value from my Amex Platinum and my CSR cards (plus my Amex Gold card)
I have the Amex Plat and I don’t see either of these offers – Home Depot or Best Buy. Anything I can do about that?
I had the offer on my CS Platinum, but not my vanilla. Do you have another flavor of the platinum that it might be on?
It’s possible it might be one per account instead of per card.
If you have 100 offers showing, you need to add a bunch then logout and log back in. It’s possible they’re not showing because they’re past offer #100.
Card needed to be open before November 1. Maybe that’s it. Although it does appear to be targeted, more likely on a CS or MS Plat instead of vanilla.
