On my mind: Is now a good time to apply for credit cards? Really? – Frequent Miler
This has been getting a lot of discussion lately and it is something we discuss on the next podcast episode. I am not planning on adjusting my application plans any at this point. I do think everyone will naturally slow down some because there will be less traveling for the near future. My plan has been to take advantage of one of the increased Chase offers ending this week when my wife drops under 5/24 again April 1st. Then I will probably focus on some cashback offers. I agree with Greg that banks may hold back offers in the near term but will probably roll out bigger offers down the line.

I was wanting to get the AX Gold card which I can but not without the irritating “no bonus for you pop up.” Any ideas how to get around that. I have been able to only do so with pre approved upgrades such as Surpass to Aspire and Bonvoy to Bonvoy Brilliant.
The way I got it to drop was to put $10-$15K on my Surpass card and then it opened up everything else. People have also reported using a referral offer triggers it sometimes when a regular one does not so may be worth trying if you were going the referral route.
I have amazing credit and applied for a Chase & Citi card almost 10-days ago. Both applications are still pending.
Hope you get 2 approvals John!
