New Regulations May Cause Uber and Lyft Rides in NYC to Cost More – Running with Miles

I wouldn’t be surprised if something changes over the next year or two.  The barrier for entry is so low for Uber and Lyft drivers compared to taxis that it is kind of insane.

Why it’s now cheaper than ever to fly across the Atlantic – CNN Travel

Competition is always good for the customer.  With airlines like WoW growing in popularity hopefully we see prices stay at these low levels.

A cautionary tale of selling your miles – Miles per Day

While I don’t agree with airlines’ rules about selling miles you need to abide by them to keep your accounts open.  I think that you should be able to sell something that you earned per their terms but it is what it is.  Hopefully more countries win cases like this one.

  1. I think Uber prices may increase but they will still have the occasional 50% off promo from time to time (which is pretty much the only time I ever use Uber here in NYC. Whenever they have that 50% off promo, prices for uberpool for the places I need to go to cost $2-$4, and the cost of a subway ride is $2.75; it makes more sense to take Uber!
As far as selling miles go, kudos to AAdvantage for actually enforcing their rules but it must be a headache to do that! I also wonder whether that’s one of the reasons KE Skypass only allows members to redeem miles for family members.

    • In NYC the subway is gonna be the better option a lot of the time for sure. I get it that selling miles is a part of AA’s rules and that is fine. I have always thought that once you earn them who cares what you do with them. If you use them on yourself or someone else why would they care. They are probably hoping people let them expire instead though.
