Mark, I read the AMEX FHR article and commented to that post. Frankly, the author seemed unseasoned — unaware of how certain things work. Pricing on changed reservations are always based on the “updated” pricing at the time of the change and NOT on the rates available at the time of the original booking. The cancel / rebook feature is not uncommon and did NOT in itself trigger the price change. The system seemed to work as expected. As for the AMEX CSRs, we’ve all had our share.
As regulars to your blog know, I’m the first to criticize hotels. But, not in this case. Unseasoned user.
