Among the Hertz-Uber pact issues is the fact that IIRC, an Uber driver doesn’t know where you want to go when they accept a job. Now, a driver can refuse a ride they’ve already accepted by saying that they don’t have the range, whether because that’s true or that they don’t want that fare. I foresee problems.
That seems like an odd issue to raise. Right now an Uber driver can do exactly what you said by claiming that they don’t have enough gas. But with teslas, there could actually be a way for uber to externally monitor the remaining range of the Tesla and not give rides to drivers who don’t have enough range left.
I dunno, putting 100 miles worth of gas in a car takes under 5 minutes; finding an electric charging station and charging 100 miles worth of driving would almost certainly take a great deal longer than most customers would be willing to wait. Also I’m not sure that Uber cares enough about the customer to institute your idea even if the software integration is readily available and cost effective.
It will have to be something they need to figure out for sure.
