Consider the source: Little Passports sells mail-order boxes that teach kids about a given culture. Cool service, but they do have an incentive.
That said, consider that a big chunk of US passports exist only to travel across the Mexican or Canadian border or on Caribbean cruises (evidenced by the massive growth in passport holding after increased requirements post-9/11), and the result is even more striking. I wonder how those rates of not having traveled correlate with bumper stickers about being the greatest country in the world…

Yup that is why I said it is sad. Some people have no other choice.
Or sometimes that is their choice!
