TPG special analysis: What impact did Marriott’s changes really have on the value of Bonvoy points? – The Points Guy
A post going into a ton of detail (Andrew always does really good work) on what kind of values they are seeing after the Marriott change. Although our buddy Mark Jackson from Brad’s deals makes a good point on how cash prices are seriously inflated right now.
Focusing on cents-per-point, rather than # of points needed is a huge miss for this one. Resorts are overcharging now (cause they can), inflating CPP. The real hurt for guests is having to spend more points for the same redemption from before the changes. https://t.co/te69yaTxmF

The Marriott comparison is interesting but as you pointed out, cash rates are sky high. Even a Fairfield Suites is often $200/night or more. What would’ve been more interesting is on a whole, if it takes more or less points to redeem at the average property.
