More Award Options at Destination by Hyatt Residences
Destination by Hyatt is a diverse collection of independent hotels, resorts and residences. The latter was not an option for award booking, expect for three properties that were added earlier this year.
Now World of Hyatt is offering members expanded redemption options across more Destination by Hyatt residences throughout the U.S. From the beaches of Hawaii to the mountains of Colorado, members can book spacious and private accommodations at participating Destination by Hyatt properties with the ability to use their points for upgraded accommodations beyond standard hotel rooms.
New Booking Options
Members can now redeem their hard-earned points for free night awards in standard and premium rooms and Suites at participating Destination by Hyatt residences. As you can see from the list below, these locations are mostly in Colorado and Hawaii for now.

Conclusion
It’s always great to see more options for using your points. However, these are not cheap redemptions. To makes matters worse, the cheapest option at some of these properties is a Premium Room or even a Standard Suite.

How do you go about booking a premium room or suite?
We recently stayed at one of these properties, booking 2 rooms. We used points for one (booked online from my Hyatt account) and cash for another (booked on the phone with Hyatt the following day). Hyatt was great: while the Hyatt site showed no availability when we needed the second room, Hyatt was able to call the property and they opened up a room. (Since I’d seen availability on various third party sites, I knew they did have some rooms still.)
But, when I called with a random question, the property couldn’t find the second reservation. After a worrisome half hour on the phone, the property finally found it. Apparently the property’s IT and Hyatt’s IT haven’t meshed properly, and they had to manually enter the res. The same thing happened to someone else, who only checked his res after I commented about it in a members-only site I frequent.
So, here’s two tips:
1) Sometimes Hyatt can call the Destination and have them open up space,
2) Make sure you check up on the res to be sure it actually made it into the Destination’s res system.
