Bilt Slashes Points Earning on Rent Payments

In mid-April, Bilt starting offering points earning on rent payments for most credit cards.

As of April 14, 2025, you earn 1X Bilt Point for every dollar you spend with a Mastercard, Visa or Discover card. Amex cards only earn 0.5X Bilt Points. These rent payments have a fee of 3%, so you’re not getting free points. But it can still be useful to generate spending with the right card, or if you’re working on a bonus.

Now Frequent Miler reports that the earning rates on most cards will be cut in half. Starting 7/21/25, all cards will earn the same 0.5X Bilt Points (1X for every $2 spent) on rent payments, and you will still pay a 3% fee.

So Bilt is cutting the earning rates just three months after first introducing them. It can still make sense to use this option if you want to get some spending done quickly from the comfort of your home, but it will come at a higher cost.

The Bilt Mastercard will continue to earn 1X Bilt Point per dollar on rent payments, with no fee, and the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature Card will continue to earn 3X miles with a 3% fee. Bilt says that some of its other travel partners will gain the same functionality as Alaska with their co-branded cards. That gives you the option of buying points for 1 cent each, which would be great for Hyatt points for example.
