Bonus Points for General Spend

American Express Offering Bonus Points for General Spend

American Express cardholders have some new Amex Offers today that will get you extra points for spending a certain amount. These offers are not merchant specific and vary from one account to the other. Check your cards to see if you are targeted. Let’s take a look at what offers are available.

The Offers

These are the offers that I have seen so far:

  • Get 2,000 Membership Rewards® points by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $3,500+ in one or more eligible transactions. Once you add the offer to your eligible card, you will have 90 days to spend $3,500 or more, up to 3 times during the offer term.
  • Get 1,500 Membership Rewards® points by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $2,500+ in one or more eligible transactions. Once you add the offer to your eligible card, you will have 90 days to spend $2,500 or more, up to 3 times during the offer term.
  • Get 1,000 Membership Rewards® points by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $2,000+ in one or more eligible transactions. Once you add the offer to your eligible card, you will have 90 days to spend $2,000 or more, up to 3 times during the offer term.

These offers are showing up on Membership Rewards earning cards, such as EveryDay, EveryDay Preferred, Gold, Platinum and more.

Key Terms

  • An “eligible purchase” means a purchase made with your enrolled Card within 90 days upon saving the offer to your Card in accordance with these terms.
  • Cash advances, balance transfers, other fees and charges such as interest, annual fees and foreign currency conversion fees are not eligible transactions and do not qualify for this offer.
  • You may not receive the additional points if (a) the Merchant uses a third-party to sell their products or services; or (b) the Merchant uses a third-party to process or submit your transaction to us (e.g., using mobile or wireless card readers); or (c) you choose to make a purchase using a third-party payment account or make a purchase using a mobile or digital wallet.

Conclusion

Earning an extra 0.5X or 0.6X for your Amex spend will probably not make you rush out the door and go shopping. But if you have these offers on a card that earns a good rate at a specific category, then some extra points are surely a nice bonus.

Let us know if you see any different offers from the ones listed above.
