Capital One New Transfer Partner and Bonuses, Plus Option to Cancel Flights

Capital One revealed today more improvements for cardholders who are looking to maximize the value of their rewards when it comes to travel. The credit card issuer announced the addition of a new transfer partner, and three transfer bonuses for existing partners.

Additionally, Capital One will now offer a new “cancel for any reason” option for customers booking flights via its Capital One Travel portal. And the issuer has set an end date for the big bonus that’s currently available for the Capital One Venture card. Let’s get into the details.

Venture X Limited Time Offer

Last November Capital One launched Venture X, our new class of travel card, which offers easy-to-use benefits and differentiated flexibility. Those who apply by March 14th will be able to earn the 100,000 mile sign-up bonus and receive up to a $200 vacation rental credit.

    • This early spend bonus is worth at least $1,000 when new cardholders spend $10,000 on purchases within six months.
    • The $200 credit can be used on vacation rentals like Airbnb and VRBO during the first year.

New Transfer Partner

Capital One is again enhancing its miles transfer program for all travel rewards customers.

In the coming weeks Capital One will add Virgin Red as a new 1:1 miles transfer partner. Capital One is the first US credit card issuer to partner with Virgin Red, the new loyalty program for the Virgin family of brands. This move will take us to 16 travel loyalty partners that transfer at a 1:1 ratio.

Most of Capital One’s other airline and hotel partners also transfer at a 1:1 rate, with a few exceptions.

Transfer Bonuses

Capital One has launched a 20% ttransfer bonus for cardholders who transfer Capital One Miles to three transfer partners. This bonus promotions includes AeroMexico (Club Premier), Avianca (LifeMiles) and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (Wyndham Rewards).

These promotions begin March 1 and will be available through March 31.

Cancel Flights for Any Reason

Capital One is introducing a new feature to its recently relaunched Capital One Travel portal. Cardholders will soon have the option to cancel a flight for any reason on Capital One Travel. The feature will be rolled out over the next few weeks.

But it will cost you to use this feature. With this new feature, for a small upfront fee, customers will be able to cancel flights booked on Capital One Travel—for any reason—up to 24 hours before their first scheduled departure and receive most of their ticket cost back.

“Canceling only takes a few clicks, with no questions asked”, Capital One says. The exact amount of the refund will be disclosed before choosing to pay for the option. But if it’s affordable, it can be a useful feature with the ongoing unpredictability for travel plans.
