Carnival Cruise Line Limits Alcohol Consumption Aboard
Carnival Cruise Line has announced a policy change in an effort to curb a spike of onboard ship violence between passengers, and probably some of the fun.
Carnival already limits alcohol consumption. Passengers can only bring aboard two bottles of wine per cabin, and liquor purchased during stops is stored by the ship until the last night on the cruise. The popular “unlimited drink package” is also limited to 15 drinks per day.
But there’s been a workaround to get some booze in your room. Carnival has allowed passengers to pre-order two full bottles of liquor to be delivered to their cabins. Now the cruise line is stopping that “perk”.
Carnival’s loyalty ambassador, John Heald, shared the news on Facebook saying:
My apologies. You will have seen that we no longer have full bottle liquor sales available on preorder. Hard liquor is no longer available for preorder on our Fun Shops. All existing sales will be honored and guests can still preorder up to two bottles of wine for onboard delivery and consumption. The change is because it will help us monitor drink consumption on board and I do apologize for any frustration. This is not a cutback. Not when it affects our revenue can this be called a cutback.
But if you have already ordered your bottles, don’t worry. While liquor bottles can no longer be ordered, previous orders will be honored.
Carnival has seen more violent incidents aboard of the last few months, including a huge brawl. The cruise line hopes that cutting back on alcohol consumption might help avoid these issues. They have even adopted a policy to fine unruly passengers who cause these incidents.

The drinks are not strong at all. I’m a Daiquiri drinker and don’t really drink and I have to have at least 6 to make me feel a buzz. The drinks are only good if you get hard liquor on the rock.
That’s 15 drinks per day isn’t it?
Is the unlimited alcohol package going to be cheaper now ,as it not unlimited, the drinks are not strong anyway
15 beers, cheaper than package.
That’s 15 drinks per day isn’t it?
Maybe airports need to start looking at alcohol issues with people getting drunk in airports and then boarding planes. If cruise ships can address this issue, airports surely can.
