Free Costco Membership with Your Chase Card

Chase is sending some cardholders an offer to save as much as $60 with a new Costco membership. That would effectively get you the membership for free. Let’s check the details.

Even if you are not targeted this should still work.  Mark did it on his Freedom card without receiving the email and got the credit a few days later.

The Offer

Plus, receive an additional $20 statement credit when you spend at least $100 with your card at Costco between June 1 and July 31, 2019.

Key Terms

  • In order to qualify for this promotion, you must be the recipient of the promotional email from Chase and use your Chase Credit Card for all applicable purchases.

  • Promotion Expires 2019-07-31.
  • Limit one per household.
  • The maximum value of statement credits applied will be $60.
  • Please allow 8 to 10 weeks after the promotional period ends July 31, 2019, to receive the up to $60 in statement credits posted to your Chase account.

  1. OK, this is crazy.

I wasn’t targeted at all. I bought a membership activation certificate via a *different, non-Chase* link to costcomembershipoffer.com (one for Dealmoon) that promised a $20 Costco Cash Card card back after 4-6 weeks. A $40 “CHASE VISA COSTCO CREDIT” just showed up in my Quicken, though not yet in my app or online. I spent more than $100 on my first trip there on July 29th. Will I get the additional $20 credit? Will I also get the cash card? Who knows?

  2. Doesn’t look like you need to be targeted….the purchase just needs to be made on a Chase Freedom card. Here’s the fine print from the bottom of the Costco website (link provided by Ryan above).

“In order to qualify for the Costco Gold Star Membership $40 Statement Credit Promotion, you must purchase a Costco Membership Activation Certificate with your Chase Freedom Credit Card by July 31, 2019, and to receive the additional $20 Statement Credit make purchases of at least $100 at a U.S. Costco location or on Costco.com with your Chase Freedom Credit Card by July 31, 2019.”

  3. Do you actually need to go instore to activated via Step 3 to complete this? I was hoping to just activate it online and avoid going instore.

  4. Not sure how Mark did this without the email as the Costco c/s rep required a bar code to scan along with an offer code to process.

  5. Shouldn’t the title read “Free Costco Membership with Your Chase FREEDOM Card?” Since I have many Chase cards (but not Freedom) I clicked this article but it doesn’t apply to me

  6. So, there’s no way to see if you were targeted or if it’ll work unless you get the credit? So basically, you’re buying a membership and hoping to get a credit? Sounds like a huge YMMV to me.

  7. I wasn’t targeted, bought the membership anyway for other reasons, and still received both the $40 & $20 statement credit.

  8. Does checking the box that says “Yes, this is a gift” allow the membership to be gifted to someone else? If so, this may be a good option for existing Costco members to obtain a free gift membership to give to a friend or family member.

  9. Wish I had a Costco nearby where management respects their customer’s time. Checkouts are always understaffed (and no self checkouts…boo!), the “guilty until proven innocent” receipt check is also always understaffed and 10+ deep at the exit. And forget about getting gas unless you arrive early in the morning or late at night – the line is always out into the main street. Blows my mind how people will wait 20-30 minutes in line to save $5 (AT MOST) for gas.

    • @ Ryan

You need to be targeted. The link you provided is the same one the author did. From the page:

“Please note: In order to qualify for this promotion, you must be the recipient of the promotional email from Chase and use your Chase Freedom Credit Card for all applicable purchases.”
