Chase Freedom 1st Quarter 5% Categories
Today, Chase Freedom revealed the rotating categories for the first quarter of 2024. These are categories where you can earn 5% cash back, and if maximized can bring in $300 annually. Let’s see how these bonus categories work.
How It Works
Starting January 1 through March 31, 2024, Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex cardmembers can earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases on the following:
- Grocery stores: Includes supermarkets, merchants that offer a full-service grocery line of merchandise including a deli and bakery as well as smaller grocery stores. Excludes Walmart and Target.
- Fitness club & gym memberships: Includes health clubs, exercise, or athletic facilities requiring membership and offering access to services related to physical fitness, such as fitness clubs, fitness centers, fitness studios, gyms, aerobics, cardio fitness and other services such as yoga and cross fit training.
- Self-care and spa services: Includes self-care and spa services, such as massages, spa treatments, manicures, tanning, and barber and salon services, purchased at merchant locations that specialize in providing these services.
You can activate the new categories here, starting tomorrow. Must activate by March 14, 2024.
Current Bonus
New cardmembers approved for a Chase Freedom Unlimited or Freedom Flex credit card can also earn up to $800 in cashback: $200 after spending $500 on purchases during the first 3 months from account opening, plus up to $600 by earning 5% cash back on grocery store purchases (not including Target or Walmart) on up to $12,000 spent in the first year.
Other Benefits
In addition to the rotating quarterly categories and new cardmember offers, Freedom Flex cardmembers also earn 5% cash back on travel purchased through Chase’s Ultimate Rewards, 3% cash back on dining and drugstores, and 1% cash back on all other purchases. Freedom Flex cardmembers also receive World Elite Mastercard Benefits, including cell phone protection and discounts with Lyft, Boxed, Shoprunner, and more.
Conclusion
Chase Freedom’s 1st quarter bonus categories are useful, but probably grocery stores is the only exciting one. That’s a popular category for good reason, since everyone needs to shop for groceries.
Also don’t forget to maximize the current 4th Quarter bonus categories before the end of the year.
