Analysis
The $200 bonus is small compared to most other welcome bonuses that we are used to. That is the reason that most people get Chase Freedom cards after product changing from other premium Chase cards.
But the added bonus 5X earning on grocery purchases could make this worthwhile for some people. You earn a total of 5X points which would be an extra 3.5X for the Chase Freedom Unlimited and an extra 4X for Chase Freedom on $12,000 in purchases during the first year. Target or Walmart purchases are not included.
Most people probably have a card that earns bonus spend on groceries. But an added option for $12K spend and considering that you are earning Ultimate Rewards, is not bad at all. You could look at this as a 60K bonus with $12K spend, but you would also have to consider what you would earn on groceries with other cards that you already have.
Conclusion
These bonuses on the Chase Freedom cards are as good as it gets when it comes to a no fee card. If you have been thinking of applying, then this is the time to do it. However, you can still get better bonuses with other credit cards, even if they have an annual fee.
