A Better Offer for Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card?
The new Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card was released on Thursday, May 3rd, with a 100,000 points signup bonus. To get the bonus you would need to spend $5,000 within three months. The card has an annul fee of $95 which wasn’t waived through that offer. You can read our review of the card here.
Now there’s a different offer available, that some might find more enticing. Let’s check it out. Keep in mind that this card is subject to the Chase 5/24 Rule, which you can read about in depth in our 5/24 Guide.
The Offer
- EARN A $200 STATEMENT CREDIT After first purchase within 3 months from account opening
- EARN 2 FREE NIGHT AWARDS (each valued up to 35,000 points) After you spend $3,000 on purchases in your first three months from account opening.
$0 intro annual fee for the first year, then $95
Analysis
Marriott points are valued in the $0.006 per point range which would make the 100,000 point bonus worth $600. Once you account for the $95 annual fee, the net value is $505.
This bonus gives you two free nights, each valued up to 35,000 points. If maximized, that would be 70,000 points or $420 by using the same valuation. You also get a $200 statement credit which would bring the net value of this bonus to $620.
Just by looking at the numbers, this is the better bonus. But it is not the better bonus for everyone. This 2 Free Night bonus is best for those who are looking to stay at 35,000 points a night hotels. That’s a Category 7 hotel for now and it will be a Category 5 once the new rewards program goes live.
The 100,000 bonus will be better for those looking to stay at cheaper or more expensive hotels. In other words, the 100,000 bonus gives you the flexibility to use the points anywhere.
Keep in mind that the spending requirement is also different. The 100K offer requires $5,000 in spending while this 2 Free Nights offer requires $3,000. That might play a role in your decision as well.
Conclusion
You have to decide for yourself which offer makes sense for your. But regardless on which offer you choose, the card comes free annual night and the 15 elite stay credits which will make this a long term keeper for some.
