Chase Southwest Cards Get ‘Pay Yourself Back’ Feature

Chase has offered a ‘Pay Yourself Back’ feature for Sapphire, Ink and Freedom cards for a couple of years now. It was then added to the Aeroplan credit card.

And now the latest family or credit cards to get this feature are Chase Southwest cards. Southwest cardholders now have the option to redeem Rapid Rewards points to cover select purchases.

The feature was added over the last few days and can be used for the following transactions only:

  • to cover the credit card annual fee at a value of 1 cent per point
  • to cover dining purchases at a value of 0.8 cents per point. This option is inly available through 3/31.23, and for up to $200 in purchases.

The annual fee option has no expiration date, which probably means that this will be an ongoing Pay Yourself Back option for Southwest cardholders. Dining is only available through the end of the month and limited to $200. After that, I would guess that we will see a different category.

While it’s great to see more cards become eligible for Pay Yourself Back, the redemption value is not exciting at all. It maxes out at 1 cent per point when you redeem points for the annual fee. But you can always do a little better than 1 cent per point when redeeming for Southwest award fares.

If you plan to use Pay Yourself Back on your Southwest card, here’s how to find this new feature:

  1. Go to Chase Southwest card account online.
  2. Click ‘More’ and choose ‘Rewards dashboard’.
  3. Find the ‘Earn / Use’ section and choose “Use Rapid Rewards points with Pay Yourself Back’.
