Citi AAdvantage Gold Mastercard,65K

Citi AAdvantage Gold Mastercard, 65K AA Miles Bonus with NO 24-Month Restriction

Besides the AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®, Citi also offers a Gold version. This card isn’t talked about much, since it lags behind other AA Citi cards in benefits and earning rates. But occasionally they send out targeted offers that make it worthwhile signing up for the card.

The Offer

Spend $4,000 within 4 months of account opening and you’ll earn 55,000 American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles. Spend a total of $6,000 within 12 months and you’ll earn another 10,000 AAdvantage bonus miles. That is 65,000 AAdvantage bonus miles just for using your card.

Annual Fee: $50 (Fee waived for the first 12 months).

Key Terms

  • Must use unique invitation code
  • Offer expires 12/15/2017

No 24 Month Restriction

Citi has tightened up rules regarding sign up bonuses. We usually see the following lamnguage on such offers:

American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles are not available if you have had any Citi® / AAdvantage® card (other than a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card) opened or closed in the past 24 months.

But this offer doesn’t have this language so you will get the bonus even if you have opened or closed a Citi AAdvantage card in the past 24 months. If you were targeted, still make sure to check your own offer for this restriction.

Conclusion

This is the highest ever offer I have seen on this card. I was targeted myself with a similar offer last year, but only for 50,000 bonus miles. This 65,000 offer is even better than the currently increased bonus on the AAdvantage® Platinum Select Cards. On top of that, there’s no 24 month restriction, which makes it a no-brainer.

The card isn’t worth much beyond the signup bonus, since it only earn 1 mile per dollar everywhere. Even on AA charged you will earn 2 miles per dollar on the first year only and 1 mile after that.

  1. I got this offer. I was planning to apply for the Platinum card with the increased bonus offer of 60K. Would it work if I apply for the Platinum card first, then apply for the Gold card with the targeted offer?

    • Yes, that will work. It would not work the other way around, because then you’d be applying for the card with the 24 month language second.
