Citi Adds New Transfer Partner: Avianca Lifemiles

Citi Adds Avianca LifeMiles as New Transfer Partner

Citi has added Avianca LifeMiles to the list of transfer partners for its ThankYou Reward’s program. Let’s take a look.

The Offer

LifeMiles is the loyalty rewards program for Avianca Airlines. As a member of Star Alliance, Avianca serves more than 100 cities in North, Central, South America, and Europe, and offers LifeMiles members access to more than 1,300 destinations worldwide.

Currently, ThankYou Points are transferring to LifeMiles at a 1:1 ratio and can be transferred in increments of 1,000.

Redeeming LifeMiles

We will follow up later this week with a detailed analysis of the best uses of Lifemiles and whether it’s worth using your ThankYou Points. If you prefer to do your own research, Avianca has an extensive partner award chart that you can view here. Keep in mind they do not pass on fuel surcharges for award tickets but do charge a $25 fee.

Conclusion

These new partnerships are always good news. They add new redemption opportunities and also add value to ThankYou points by providing more flexibility. As a Star Alliance member, Avianca LifeMiles can be used for flights on many partner airlines. I look forward to exploring redemption options and helping everyone get the most value out of their points. Let me know in the comments if you have any ideas of how to best use LifeMiles.

  1. In regards to the partner awards chart… I find it conspicuous that “Washington” is listed under “United States 1” along with all the other north-eastern states, and not in “United States 3” with the western states. Do you think that’s a mistake? I understand someone might have placed it there referring to the District of Colombia. If not a mistake, then under this chart one could fly from SEA to EWR on United for 7k in Coach and 15k in PS First (given connection to PS transcon SFO-EWR)… Even if a mistake, wonder if a clueless agent might ticket it as such? 😀
