Costco Is Selling Super Bowl Tickets – Is It A Good Deal?

Costco is a great place for deals and for potential reselling opportunities.  Look at their iTunes gift card deal that kicked off yesterday.  But one thing I never thought I would find on their site is tickets to the Super Bowl.  The price tag is large but is it a good deal?

Breaking Down the Offer

I don’t think the more expensive one is worth looking at so let’s focus on the $7999.99 deal.  If you shop at Costco at all then you will probably be able to use $2500 in Costco gift cards. I don’t know that there is much of a resale market for them but if there was you could probably get around 90 cents on the dollar for them.  You could even sell a chunk of them to friends and family.  Costco gift cards are a way to shop at Costco without a membership after all. So let’s put the value at around $2250 for those.  That brings the cost of the package down to $5749.99.  If you can split it with a friend that is a cost of $2874.99 per ticket.

The cheapest ticket was going for around $3200 at last year’s Super Bowl.  That is a discount of around 10% from the worst ticket on the exchange. Not an amazing deal but a savings from what you would probably normally pay.

Could this be a resell opportunity?  Maybe but that is a lot of float and the risk reward is not great.  I am sure somebody will give it a go though. Be cautioned that they do say selling the tickets would void the deal. Not sure if it will be enforced or if there is a way around it.

Final Thoughts

Going to the Super Bowl is a sports bucket list item for me. I don’t think I can pull the trigger on this one even though it would be awesome to have tickets locked up for the big game.  If I had a buddy willing to go in on it with me then I would be more tempted.

If anyone purchases a package for resale let me know.

  1. I purchased the superbowl package last year. My team didn’t make it, so I put them up for sale. It was very hard to sell them but I finally did and made about $300 profit. I was able to take my cash cards in to Costco and in return they gave me a check that I could take to my bank. But I don’t think that was there normal policy.

  2. I cant get any information on The Costco Superbowl 2-2-2020 Package…I have called 1-877-849-2730 and also 1-866-921-7925 they cant find it?
    HELP??

  3. ” Costco gift cards are a way to shop at Costco without a membership after all. ”

While this is the company policy, I would say around half the time I tried this the cashier would claim that you need membership. Then they had to wait for a manager who i showed that it clearly says on the sleeve of the gift card that you don’t need membership. And eventually they let me make the purchase but they were nasty about it. One time the manager insisted any money left on the gift card at the end they would have to cash out so I couldn’t use it again.

It really left me with a bad taste in my mouth and not interested in going into Costco again.

    • Wait…. what? I can cash out a costco gift card? What costco? Ms possibilities are spinning in my head? I’ll make sure to hide my membership card so they make me cash out

      • I think if it is below a certain amount in some states they have to legally give you cash but it is like $10 or less etc. I think it would be a very painful option.

    • Wow this is a pretty well known and publicized feature of their gift cards. It’s largely driven by the laws in various states I believe, but I haven’t ever heard of someone having issues. Too bad that Costco location didn’t know how to treat you so you would want to shop there and get a membership.

  4. May not be that profitable for Ticket resale in Miami.. But if they do this offer at that price point for the new Raider Stadium here in Vegas I will be all over it.

    • Kevin I had not thought of that and great point, a new stadium would bring a lot more interest versus one that has held the Super Bowl a ton. It sounds like they do it every year so you should have a good chance at it.

  5. Presumably you’d also get the 2% Executive bonus back. Plus whatever you can make on your CC.

Costco in-store allows multiple swipes of as many V GCs as you have. I once bought $3000 of stuff with 15 $200 VGs bought fee-free for 5x UR at OM.

If I were going to the Super Bowl I would definitely at least look at this.
