Disney to Discontinue Magical Express and Extra Magic Hours for Hotel Guests

Disney World has announced that it will soon end two popular services. The Magical Express shuttle service will be discontinued at the end of the year along with the Extra Magic Hours benefit will be replaced.

Disney’s Magical Express is a free service that transports guests from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Disney resort hotels. Disney has no plans to offer any other options to replace this service that will not be available starting January 1, 2022. Disney will continue to operate the service for new and existing reservations made at Disney Resort hotels for arrivals throughout 2021.

The Extra Magic Hours benefit will also be discontinued. It was suspended when Walt Disney World Resort reopened last summer. This benefit gave early morning or end-of-day access to select parks on select days.

But Disney will introduce  Early Theme Park Entry instead. Disney Resort hotel guests and guests of other select hotels will be able to enjoy more fun with 30-minute early entry to any theme park, every day.

Disney says that “the new early theme park entry benefit helps us better spread visitation across all four theme parks, while providing added flexibility by giving guests extra early park time on each day of their vacation and in the park of their choosing.”

Guests will need valid admission and a park reservation made via the Disney Park Pass system to enter a theme park.

  1. Personally, I can’t understand either of them. I have taken the magical express for the last number of years and there are always a good amount of people on them. Unless the plan is to instead have people take the new Brightline train from the airport to DisneyWorld. But then they would need bus service from the DisneyWorld train stop to the hotel.

To me, this clearly make staying at a Disney Hotel much less valuable.
