DTW Lufthansa Business Lounge Review – Detroit Metro North Terminal

A few weeks ago I covered that Priority Pass had finally added a lounge in Detroit. That lounge would be the DTW Lufthansa Business Lounge.  I was very excited to finally have a lounge option in the North Terminal.  Delta has multiple lounges in the McNamara Terminal but you are stuck at TGI Fridays 🙁 in the North Terminal.

I had a recent flight on Delta but decided to get there early to check out the new lounge, even though it was in the other terminal.  This is also when I purchased my Spirit Airlines ticket and saved almost 30% by doing it at the airport.

Location

As mentioned the lounge is in the North Terminal and it is located between the D6 and D8 gates.  I was able to access the lounge even though I was in the wrong terminal and the TSA agent didn’t seem to notice/care at all.

I usually park in the Blue Deck parking structure which is attached to the North Terminal so it didn’t cost me too much extra time.  There is a bus that runs between the two terminals.  At the North Terminal the bus picks up and drops off where all of the hotel buses and airport parking buses are located. The bus picks up and drops off outside of the Westin hotel entrance at the McNamara terminal. If you were flying Delta through Detroit and had less than a 3 hour layover I wouldn’t bother visiting.

Lounge Hours & Details

The DTW Lufthansa Business Lounge was built for the once daily flight from Detroit to Frankfurt.  Because of that they want to keep the lounge clear of Priority Pass members for their regular passengers.  The hours for the lounge are as follows:

  • 5:00-18:30 Monday-Saturday
  • 11:00-18:30 Sunday
  • NO Priority Pass members between 13:00-16:00 daily.

Children under 2 get in free and there is a maximum visit of 3 hours. You can only gain access with a departing ticket as well, arrival tickets will not work.

When you enter the lounge you show your boarding pass and ID.  You are then directed to the seating area on the left side of the lounge.  There is another seating area to the right side but this is for Star Alliance elites and people with business class Lufthansa tickets.

Once I entered the lounge was about half full.  It is one small room with seating for around 50 people.  There were bathrooms available inside the lounge which is nice.

They had a few TVs on and different forms of seating. There were tables and chairs by the food area and leather chairs towards the back of the room.  They also have a work station area with desks to get work done.

There was a full self serve bar and snacks laid out.  The food choices were a small step up from what you see at most Delta lounges or Admirals clubs but not as good as Centurion lounges.  They had wraps, fruit, veggies, olives and there were two hot foods as well but I didn’t notice them until looking at the pictures, sorry.

They had a fridge with beer, soda, and juice in it as well.  I was surprised that they had some decent offerings in the liquor section of the bar and you can pour it as heavy as you like.

Conclusion

It is nice to finally have a lounge at the North Terminal.  But, with how easy it is to get a Priority Pass card these days, and how small the lounge is, I could see the lounge run into crowding issues.

I will stop in in the future to grab a few drinks before my flight but I don’t see myself getting to the airport early on purpose to visit the lounge.  I also don’t think I would want to sit in there for a long period of time because it felt kind of cramped.  If they ever opened up both sides of the lounge I think that would change my feelings about it.

Overall I thought the food and beverage options were a little bit better than most domestic airline lounges.

  1. I was just there yesterday and have the same sentiments. It’s a small lounge and with any influx of passengers, it feels even smaller. I would NOT get there early for this lounge. p.s. D6/D8 is all the way at the extreme end of the concourse. It’s far!

A decent lounge option in Detroit's North Terminal to grab a self serve (ie heavy pour) drink before your flight and a snack. Not a destination worth going out of your way for though.DTW Lufthansa Business Lounge Review - New Priority Pass Lounge
