Facebook Users File Lawsuit After 50 Million Accounts Were Hacked

Facebook users have launched a class action lawsuit against the social media company, saying that over 50 million accounts were exposed in a recent data breach.

The class action lawsuit comes after the accusations that the company faced this summer over selling data. Now, consumers allege that the company continues to be lax in its security measures.

The class action lawsuit says that the function that allows users to remain logged into the website, so they don’t have to log in each time they with to use the site, and the one that enables users to see what their profile looks like from the public, called the “View As” feature, left users vulnerable.

John Yanchunis of Morgan & Morgan PA, representing the Facebook users in the Facebook “View As” data breach class action lawsuit says that “It is shocking that after all the publicity surrounding Facebook’s handling of personal information in the wake of Cambridge Analytica and its promises to do better by its users that Facebook yet again failed to protect consumers’ information from hackers.”

The Facebook “View As” Data Breach Class Action Lawsuit is Echavarria et al. v. Facebook Inc., Case No. 5:18-cv-05982, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
