Inspire The Love Of Aviation With Free Young Eagles Flights
Free Young Eagles Flights looks like a cool program I didn’t know was out there until I saw a post about it on SlickDeals. It is a program that is supposed to inspire kids to join the aviation industry and go on to become pilots etc. It allows your child a chance to fly with a trained pilot on a 15-20 minute flight for free.
Details
This program is based off of pilots volunteering their time to inspire children to fall in love with aviation. It is provided at no cost and it looks pretty amazing. My son is still a little too young to do it (for ages 8-17) but I will be doing it in the future.
The program was launched in 1992 and some of the kids that took part in the program are now giving back as pilots. So far more than 2 million young people have enjoyed a free introductory flight through the Young Eagles program.
Here is a breakdown of the experience from the website:
YOUR FLIGHT EXPERIENCE
Here’s how your flight will go:
- On the ground
Your pilot explains what will happen during the flight. You may talk about the airplane, review an aeronautical chart (or map), and complete a careful “walk-around” preflight inspection of the airplane. - Just before takeoff
Your pilot explains the interior of the airplane, including the operation of the aircraft door, safety belts, and instrument panel. - In the air
The flight lasts between 15 and 20 minutes. And, if you want, your pilot may let you take the controls! - Back on the ground
There’s more time for you to ask questions about the flight. Your pilot is happy to tell you more about flying and his or her particular airplane.
You also get an official Young Eagles logbook with a personal code to activate your free EAA Student Membership and Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course.

Conclusion
This is a pretty amazing program and even more amazing is that it is free and relies solely on volunteers, pretty cool! You can look for participating pilots in your area here. I can’t wait to have my son take part in it next year when he is old enough. Is this something that you think would be interesting? Do you plane to take advantage of it?

Oh, very cool! Wish my granddaughter was old enough, but hopefully it’ll still be around in another six years 😀
I bet it will be!
