Great Targeted Offer: $75 off Alaska Airlines Flight After $250 Spend

Great Targeted Offer: $75 off Alaska Airlines Flight After $250 Spend

This morning I received an email with this offer from Bank of America for my Alaska Airlines Credit Card. I’m not sure how targeted the offer is, so if you received it or a different offer, let me know in the comments. Also note, there is no activation required, if you received this offer you can get to work on spending.

The Offer

Receive a $75 flight discount after you spend $250 or more in purchases with your Alaska Airlines Visa Signature credit card at qualifying department, electronics, toy, book and sporting goods stores from now through December 31, 2017. If you meet the spending requirements, you will receive a $75 flight discount code in your Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan online account.

Key Terms

  • No activation required, just use your card.
  • Superstores, discount stores and warehouse clubs are not included
    • More Detailed List of qualifying merchants: Department Stores; Electronics Stores; Computers and Computer Peripheral Equipment and Software Stores; Hobby, Toy and Game Shops; Book Stores; Sporting Goods Stores, Sports Apparel and Riding Apparel Stores.
  • The $75 flight discount code will expire one year from the date issued to your Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan online account.
  • Discount not valid on partner airlines.
  • Allow 12 weeks from the end of the promotion for the code to show up in your online account.

Conclusion

I will definitely be taking advantage of this offer! It’s is a no-brainer for anyone who may be able to use the $75 towards flights next year. The discount represents a 30% return on the $250 spend, (you normally only see returns like that with sign-up bonuses). Keep in mind, you have a whole year to use it before it expires. Also, these are great categories and they are varied enough that it should be easy to meet the $250 spending threshold, especially with the holidays around the corner.

  1. Yeah I did this promotion and even called in to speak with BofA CSR reps to confirm that my spend would trigger it to make sure the merchants coded into an eligible category. Now t’s been a solid 6 weeks since the end of the promotion and still no discount code in my profile. I know they said 12-weeks but very often promo offers say 6-8 weeks and then load within a week or two.

Has anyone else’s promo loaded into their accounts yet?

I wouldn’t be too worried except that the first CSR I spoke to back in December was clueless with no idea of the promotion and kept thinking it must have been the sign-up bonus I was talking about. After HUCA the second CSR was still unsure until I kindly prompted him to dig a bit deeper and then he finally found the promo in my account.

  2. Bethany, do you know if you can stack this with the companion fare? I’ve been looking for R/T flights for my daughter and her Significant Other from the PHL area to the West Coast, so they can take their new(ish) baby to meet her grandparents and great-grandparents in California 🙂 I wanted to use the Alaska companion fare for the trip, but we’re still narrowing down dates/times, etc., so I haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet. It would be great to get an extra $75 off of the fare, which keeps coming in around the $800-$900 mark.

    • Hi Eileen :). There was no mention of the terms of the $75 discount (aside from expiration), so I definitely wouldn’t be able to say whether they’ll stack. Unfortunately, it says you may not receive the discount code for 12 weeks after promo ends, seems like it’ll be a long wait.
