Hyatt Category Changes 2025

Hyatt Category Changes 2025

It’s that time of the year again! Hyatt has announced a number of category changes for their hotels effective as of Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. CDT. As expected, these  changes are negative once again, but the number of properties that are affected is lower than last year.

These changes will affect 151 hotels. Out of those hotels, 33 will shift to a lower award category and 118 hotels will shift to a higher award category. It’s important to note that Hyatt isn’t adding any additional categories nor are they changing the costs associated with the various categories. Properties are only moving up or down by one category.

You can view the full list of changes here.

How the 2025 Category Changes Work

  • All free night award and Points + Cash redemptions booked before 8:00 am CDT on Tuesday, March 25 will follow the current Award Chart regardless of stay dates, even if the hotel is shifting to a higher award category.
  • However, members who have existing award or Points + Cash bookings as of 8:00 am CDT on Tuesday, March 25 for a night on or after Tuesday, March 25 at a Hyatt hotel that moved down to a lower category, will receive an automatic one-time refund on the point difference. Points will be returned to members’ accounts starting Tuesday, March 25.
  • Any free night award and Points + Cash redemptions booked on or after 8:00 am CDT on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, will follow the new Award Chart.
  • Once changes go into effect on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. CDT, any adjustments made to existing reservations will follow the terms of the new Award Chart.

Mostly Bad, And Some Good News

Hyatt highlights that some of the favorites like Hotel Figueroa, part of the The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand, Zoëtry Marigot Bay St. Lucia, Calistoga Motor Lodge & Spa, a JdV by Hyatt hotel, Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa and Park Hyatt Doha will shift down in category.

But for those planning to use a Category 1-7 Award Night, a call out to reserve ahead of March 26 as as six properties are moving from Cat 7 to Cat 8, including Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa. No properties are going down from Cat 8 to Cat 7.

As for those looking to book a Category 1-4 Award Night, there are 11 properties that are moving out of that range and into Category 5. On the other hand, only six properties are moving from Category 5 to Category 4.

Conclusion

World of Hyatt award chart changes are an annual occurrence, and often we see properties get more expensive overall. This year is no different, as 118 hotels moved into higher categories and 46 got more affordable.

These changes are going into effect on March 25. That means that you should book your stay with Hyatt points before that date if your favorite properties are getting more expensive.
