Iberia Avios
Iberia shares the same Avios program with British Airways and points can be transferred instantly between the two. Iberia Plus award chart is a distance based award chart and each segment is a separate award level.
Unlike BA, they don’t add crazy surcharges to award flights.
You can check how far your Avios can take you with Iberia here.
Conclusion
Avios already give you good value on Iberia award flights and with this discount it gets even better. A flights from Boston or Chicago to Madrid for example would cost you 17,000 off-peak usually and it will only cost you 12,750 Avios with this 25% discount. Round trip award flights will be just 25,500 Avios. Business class will cost you double.
If you need more Avios miles, you can transfer points from Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards and SPG Starpoints. Chase and SPG have a 1:1 transfer rate, but SPG will also give you a 5,000 miles bonus when you transfer 20,000 Starpoints.

To be able to transfer Avios from BA to Iberia, you need to have some REAL activity (transfers don’t count) in the Iberia account IN THE LAST 36 MONTHS. I had activity about 4 years ago in my Iberia account but lost the points after 36 months; I tried to reactivate the points before they expired by transferring 1000 Avios from BA. The transfer worked but I lost the 1000 points too because the transfer doesn’t count as activity.
Yesterday I tried to transfer more Avios from BA to Iberia but the transfer failed repeatedly because I had no REAL activity in the last 36 months. I had to buy 2000 overpriced Avios in the Iberia account (worked in real time), after which the BA to Iberia transfer worked.
All this to get 2 business class tickets Chicago to Madrid in May for 100K Avios +$474.26.
I think a transfer from UR to Iberia would have been enough to count as new activity but I am not 100% on that.
[…] far as I can tell, there is not an official promotion splash page for this promo. Mark Ostermann at Miles to Memories links to a page found by clicking here, but I’m only seeing an advertisement for 25% off […]
