IHG Points Transfer Are Now Free
The IHG One Rewards program is making a positive change starting today. You can now transfer points to other members without having to pay a fee. This is something that other hotel programs already offer, and it’s great to see IHG also jump on board.
You can see the notification in the transfer page. Here’s what the website says:
Beginning December 6, 2023, Diamond Elite and IHG Business Rewards members may transfer points free of charge. For all other Members, the Member authorizing the transfer will be charged $5 US per 1,000 Points transferred, payable via valid, accepted credit card or approved payment method.
This is meant primarily as a “benefit” for Diamond Elites. If you already have that status, it only works when you transfer point to others, not the other way around.
However, HG Business Rewards members can also transfer points for free. What’s interesting about that is that anyone can join this program. You can do so here, after logging in to your IHG account. Just read and accept the terms and then join for free.
Conclusion
This is great news for those that need to pool points for a booking, or if you want to redeem points through a family member’s account who has the legacy IHG Club Select Card that offers a 10% rebate.
You no longer need to pay $5 per 1,000 Points transferred which is what IHG charges if you’re not Diamond Elite or an IHG Business Rewards member

The IHG free points transfer does not seem to working, I, a Diamond member, am trying to transfer points to my wife, also a Diamond Member. Their system still wants to charge $5/k for a points transfer.
