JetBlue Increases Fees for Checked Bags

JetBlue Increases Fees for Checked Bags

JetBlue has increased fees for checked bags once again. The New York based airline last increased fees in August 2018, when they raised prices to $30 for the first bag and $40 for a second checked bag. Now you have to pay an extra $5 again. The 1st bag will cost $35 and the 2nd one will cost $45. But if customers choose to pay in advance – prior to the online check-in window opening – they pay $5 less, as reported by PaxEx.

Here’s the new fee schedule.

And for comparison, here are the old fees:

The fee increase is meant to speed up things at the airport and force more customers to add checked bags ahead of time. There should also be less transactions happening at the airports. Plus, more revenue for the airline, with the goal of keeping fares affordable, based on an internal message to crewmembers.

Conclusion

JetBlue has been encouraging passengers to use its online platforms for bookings by offering better mile earnings. This fee increase is yet another attempt to get more customers to book early and take care of everything online.

The fee increase applies to flights booked on or after January 16, 2020.
