Las Vegas Plans to Celebrate New Year with Largest Fireworks Show Ever
Las Vegas was mostly shut down last year, early in the pandemic. It also canceled its its New Year’s Eve spectacle and fireworks. But it’s back this year and it will be bigger than ever.
Tourism officials announced celebration plans this week that include a 16-minute fireworks show taking place at midnight. The coordinated show will take place from the rooftops of eight Strip hotels. That’s one more than in past years. The new addition is Resorts World, the city’s newest resort that opened over the summer, Las Vegas Review Journal reports.
The other seven locations include MGM Grand, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, The Venetian, and the Strat.
“The world has come to expect great things of Las Vegas, things that can’t be done anywhere else in the way that we do,” Jim Gibson, vice chairman of the Clark County Commission, said during remarks at Fashion Show mall. “I am confident that America’s Party 2022 Deuces Wild will exceed expectations because what happens here only happens here.”
The fireworks show includes more than 11,500 custom pyrotechnics, controlled by more than 60 technicians and 70 support staff. The show will start with a pyrotechnic countdown racing up the Strat’s tower, then launch the fireworks display. New visuals include pastel colored-fireworks, special shapes and sweeping explosions across the Strip that shoot up like the Bellagio Fountains, among other effects.
Las Vegas is the second largest New Year’s celebration in the country, behind Times Square in New York. Crowds normally exceed 330,000 in past years, and tourism officials expect even more people this year.
