First Look Inside Underground Transportation System at Las Vegas Convention Center
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has provided today a first look inside Elon Musk’s innovative underground transportation system located beneath the Las Vegas Convention Center campus. The Las Vegas Convention Center Loop is a first-of-its-kind transportation solution that is expected to launch later this year.
The $52.5 million system will serve as a fun and quick way to move convention attendees throughout the more than 200-acre campus, all 40 feet beneath the ground in all-electric Tesla vehicles. Plans have been announced to develop an expanded system throughout the resort corridor, known as the Vegas Loop, which will ease traffic congestion and offer a new transportation option for visitors from as far north as Downtown Las Vegas, throughout the Strip and as far south as Allegiant Stadium.
The system is already operational and will be available when LVCC welcomes its first major convention, World of Concrete, in June 2021.
“We are excited to have partnered with Elon’s company to bring this transportation ‘first’ to our valued convention customers,” says Steve Hill, LVCVA president and CEO. “The expanded Loop system, when developed, will be a game-changer and a new ‘must experience’ attraction for our visitors.”
The Boring Company constructed two one-way, .8-mile vehicular tunnels and three passenger stations to connect the existing convention center campus to the 1.4 million square foot West Hall expansion. The system will allow up to 4,400 convention attendees per hour to be whisked across the sprawling campus in just under two minutes, free of charge.
By foot, the walk would take approximately 25 minutes. Instead, passengers are carried in all-electric Tesla vehicles to their destination. Vehicles have capacity to go 150 mph but will travel at 35-40 mph due to the short distance of the tunnels. The system will be staffed with drivers initially with the plan to operate them autonomously in the future.

So let me get this straight. In stead of, of I don’t know, building this tunnel under LV Blvd where it would relieve traffic congestion. Add to the wonderful experience of alas Vegas, and keep people from dying of the heat we elected to spend billions to help fat conventioneers from (God forbid) walking some blocks to get from one point to another AND we’re going to do by driving them in electric cars ?
Do I have it right ? This is close to bad as building a tram that doesn’t help anyone get around or get to anywhere they want to go.
Stupid is as stupid does
They wasted $50mm of taxpayer money to build a tunnel…to drive ordinary cars…that only hold 4 people…driven by humans…less than a mile…and you act like this is a revolutionary breakthrough.
Elon can’t even get autopilot to work in a tunnel and yet you promote this guy’s lies anyway.
It won’t transport 4400 people per hour. That’s 73 people per minute. But it takes 88 seconds to drive .8 miles at 35mph, assuming instant acceleration and stopping and no time to load and unload, buckle/unbuckle. You’d need hundreds of cars operating simultaneously, constantly, with no down time for charging, driver changes, etc. It’s all lies.
Literally anything would’ve been a better option. Like perhaps a conveyor belt. Or a log flume. Or maybe a bus. Or a subway. Or a monorail.
