Moviepass is Finally Adding a Family Plan – Sort Of

Moviepass (my review here) announced a few months ago that they wanted to add a Family Plan at some point.  Well the details have finally been released in an exclusive interview with Cinema Blend.

Moviepass calls it a family plan but it doesn’t really work out that way.  At least it isn’t a plan you sign up for like Sinemia offers.

Details

The “family plan” will allow you to link accounts so that you can all check in at the same time on the same card.  Each person will need to have their own personal Moviepass account first. It should be available in the next few weeks.

Moviepass will not offer a true family plan for the time being but this will make it easier for families to choose seats etc. without having to check in multiple times.

There will not be a discount for having a family plan, at least for the time being.

Conclusion

This is something that needed to be done to improve the customer experience.  It makes it possible to get accounts for kids without phones etc. as well.  But they fell a little short in my opinion and should set up true family plans with slightly discounted rates.

I guess the positive of it being set up this way is that each person can go to movies on their own or with other people and still use their Moviepass account.

  1. I’m a huge Moviepass fan despite the annoyances. This is a feature my wife and I have been wanting for a while if only to make the ticket purchase process a bit easier. That said, ever since some theaters in our area have added e-ticketing we are rarely paying with the cards.

  2. Sounds interesting. However what if you have 3 people who usually go, but sometimes only 2 go without the third?

I’m hoping this helps with the logistics. What I want is to be able to get all the tickets with one order. I like the idea of getting the tickets early, but not having to require all 3 of us to show up to pick them up then go and watch the film hours later. If you still have all show up to get the tickets, then this is a nice addition, but nothing earth shattering.

    • I think it will work the way you hope where one person will check in for all 3 but not 100% clear on that right now.
